The operators of Gunpowder, Madame D and Gul and Sepoy — all in the Spitalfields area of east London — are planning to open two new restaurants in London, Eater understands from sources. One is thought to be a second Gunpowder, while the other concept remains unknown.
One of the two new restaurants will open in central London, while the other will open in Shoreditch. If the restaurants open early in the new year, which is thought to be the timeframe, it would take the group to five restaurants in the space of just over two years. Given that a Gunpowder site is already in situ in Spitalfields, it would follow that the group take that concept to central London, possibly opening in Soho or Fitzrovia. That would leave a potentially new concept to launch in the vicinity of their three existing restaurants.
The restaurant group, operated by Harneet and Devina Baweja, first opened the modern Indian site Gunpowder on White's Row, Spitalfields in late 2015; Madame D, a Himalayan concept across the street, opened in the summer of this year, while Gul and Sepoy, a two-story restaurant focusing on both rustic and royal Indian cuisine, launched just two weeks ago.
Stay tuned for further details when they’re made available.
