The Orange Buffalo, a stalwart of London’s street food truck scene, have announced that they’ll open their first permanent site inside Shoreditch’s Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen. The buffalo chicken wing specialists, who’ve been serving from a location off Brick Lane since 2012 will officially open on Thursday 26 October (after a two week soft launch period.)
Mike So and Nick White, both from Hull, established The Orange Buffalo after a road trip across the U.S. The New York-style buffalo wings, they say, “spoke to them and they made a bet to bring back the sour, spicy, crispy wing with the creamy, salty blue cheese dip to the UK.” The handsome-looking “dive bar” will welcome regular live music acts and perhaps not surprisingly offer “great cocktails” with “a no-frills attitude.”
The wings will be served with a choice of six homemade sauces, with varying degrees of heat. They include: the ‘Original’ tangy sauce made with Dutch chillies; ‘Woof Woof’ with Scotch bonnets, Dutch chilli and a hint of naga; as well as the notorious ‘Snake-In a basket’ — a surprise package of ‘Original’ or ‘Woof Woof’ wings, plus one slathered with ‘Viper,’ the duo’s hottest sauce made from Scotch bonnets, more-than-a-hint-of-naga and chilli extract, that comes with a requisite, cooling ‘anti-venom’ (Mini Milk ice cream) foil.
Sides include: Curly fries, onion rings and deep-fried pickles. New — trend-box-ticking –— menu additions, for Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, include the ‘The bloody veggie burger’: a roasted beetroot, chestnut mushroom, brown rice, adzuki beans and almond patty, layered with Swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, blue cheese dressing and pickle.
The food will be available alongside Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen cocktails like Bey’s Lemonade (Four Roses Yellow Label whisky, lemon, tarragon, rose water and soda); and the smokey, honeyed Mezcal Moment (Lillet Blanc, Montelobas Mezcal, grapefruit and rosemary.)
