Lievita, the award-winning Neapolitan pizzeria (from Milan) has moved London. And though the operators will not open a restaurant, their pizza is now available through Deliveroo Editions — the delivery company’s so-called ‘dark kitchen’ operation that is on a mission to overhaul the way London enjoys fast casual restaurant food. The launch also marks the first time Deliveroo has worked to enable a brand to enter a new market, in different country.
Lievita have launched a menu exclusively for their Deliveroo operation, which will be available to order from 5pm on weekdays and 12pm at weekends, from within the delivery radius of Swiss Cottage and Islington Editions sites. The pizzas include:
- Mediterranea: Mozzarella fior di latte, tuna fillet, Salina capers and grilled onions with fresh basil.
- Broccoli & Co: Semi-dried pork sausage, smoked mozzarella, broccoli and marinated semi-dried tomatoes.
- Marinara: A vegan pizza, which includes San Marzano tomatoes, black olives from Caiazzo and Salina capers with oregano and garlic.
Lievita’s head chef, Giorgio Caruso said, “We’re very excited to launch in the UK so we can bring Londoners a taste of authentic Neapolitan pizza.” A statement that some could deem insensitive, given that Lievita is from Milan and in London there is Santa Maria in Ealing and Fulham, L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele in Stoke Newington and L’Antica in Hampstead, to name but three excellent — and authentic — Neapolitan pizzerias already established in the city.
“We’ve been successfully working with Deliveroo in Italy since 2015 and now Deliveroo Editions will allow us to expand to cities around the world where they are passionate about great food,” he added. Caruso has personally overseen the set-up of the new UK kitchens.
Rohan Pradhan, VP of Deliveroo Editions said: “Deliveroo Editions is all about bringing more choice to customers. We’ve already enabled our restaurants to expand to new areas, now we’re empowering our partners to cross borders and open up in brand new markets. Lievita are one of the best pizzerias in Italy and we’re sure they’ll be a hit in London.”
