Veggie Pret — Pret a Manger’s vegetarian-only takeaway shop — will open in a third location in London next Wednesday. The brand will open on Exmouth Market, in Clerkenwell. It is thought that the brand will be accelerating the opening of vegetarian-only shops in an attempt to piggy-back the so-called ‘clean eating’ and ‘health food’ zeitgeist.
It follows the omnipresent chain’s two existing vegetarian-only sites on Broadwick Street in Soho and Great Eastern Street in Shoreditch. The Exmouth Market site will, however, be the first shop to open as a Veggie Pret (not converted into one) and will not open on an existing Pret site.
New vegan menu items, which are due to be “rolled-out” in Shoreditch and Soho this week, include a beans and avocado power pot and sweet potato, coconut and cashew nut flatbread.
Exmouth Market has become one of London’s most well-known restaurant streets — a strip much changed since Moro first opened there in 1997. Caravan, in 2009, and Morito soon after, precipitated its becoming a trendy location for London’s fast casual brands and decent independents. Pizza Pilgrims, Dirty Burger, Humous Bros and Berber & Q Shawarma Bar all now have sites on the street. A new Veggie Pret is unlikely to cause too much disruption.
The shop will officially open on Wednesday next week, but will apparently offer a preview free lunch for 500 on Tuesday at: 19—21a Exmouth Market, London EC1R 4QD
