A pair of new head chef appointments have been announced for Jason Atherton’s pizza joint Hai Cenato, and Social Wine & Tapas, his wine bar on James Street in Marylebone. Both Frankie van Loo, who will now head up the kitchen at Hai Cenato, and Marcus Rohlen, who takes over van Loo’s previous role at Social Wine & Tapas, joined Atherton’s globe-spanning restaurant group five years ago.
Van Loo spent two years at Pollen Street Social, then became sous chef at Social Eating House when it launched in 2013, before heading up the opening of Social Wine & Tapas. Marcus Rohlen came to London from his native Sweden in 2007 to work for Richard Corrigan, before joining Pollen Street Social in 2012.

Atherton says: “Marcus has been my senior sous at Pollen Street Social for the past five years, and now he is running his own kitchen. It’s an amazing step for him, I am very proud. And Frankie is the perfect person to run Hai Cenato — his food is light and vibrant and I’m excited to see the menu develop even further.”
Jason Atherton’s restaurant group Social Company’s latest London opening is Temple & Sons in the City, an all-day grill and deli inspired by a traditional Victorian grocers. He is planning to move his Clerkenwell izakaya, Sosharu, to a more central site next year.
