Welcome to day four of London’s inaugural participation in the annual Eater Awards, honouring the most talented restaurant and bar industry operators in cities across the world. Here’s how the Eater Awards work: All 24 Eater cities and the national site will award prizes in multiple categories, including Restaurant of the Year, Chef of the Year, Design of the Year, and, now, Expansion of the Year.
In each category, editors choose an ‘editor’s choice’ winner and readers will vote for a ‘reader’s choice’ winner — all to be announced on 5 December, 2017. Editor’s choice winners will receive the much sought-after tomato can trophy, per tradition. This year Eater will extend the awards coverage, running in-depth features about each editor’s choice winner throughout 2018. Watch out.
Now, it’s time to vote for the reader’s choice winner in the Restaurant Expansion of the Year category. Polls will be open for 24 hours and — again — will be strictly monitored for any attempts at impropriety.
The choice is between: Ben Chapman’s third Thai-inspired bar and restaurant in Shoreditch; Margot Henderson and Melanie Arnold’s taking art gallery dining to the next level; central London’s favourite Sri Lankan with a follow-up that takes reservations; Marcus Samuelsson’s transplanting of his Harlem institution in Shoreditch; or Harneet and Devina Baweja’s opening of two new east London restaurants this year.
Go.
