Magnus Reid’s Hackney cafe and restaurant — Legs — will be taken over by Snackbar. The roving pop-up, by Freddie Janssen and Seb Myers, will be in residence from Wednesday 2 — Sunday 13 August. Reid is taking a summer break.
Snackbar — purveyors of what they term ‘#InternationalPartyFood’ — will be taking over the kitchen and introducing a new menu, based on their quick service, multi-disciplinary style of cooking. Reid’s mostly natural wine list will remain in place.
The food references a number of global cuisines, carrying voguish ingredients, innovations on classics, occasionally through a modern European bistronomic lens. This summer they’ve served lobster roll with lovage crisps; mortadella banh mis; pot stickers and eel broth and a wild pea and lardo tostada. The duo will be creating a number of new dishes for the Legs takeover.
This summer, Janssen and Myers have cooked at The Laughing Heart, Our/London Vodka and hosted a three-day pop-up at Borough Market with Eighty Six List. Legs will be their first major residency in London and comes ahead of their opening a permanent restaurant site in east London later this year.
Janssen is the creator of F. A. T pickles and author of Pickled. She is also the head of PR and marketing at Lyle’s. Myers, meanwhile, is in charge of the food at The Laughing Heart Cave. He previously ran the kitchen at Chiltern Firehouse and Sager + Wilde Paradise Row.
