London bar Dandelyan was this weekend named the “world’s best cocktail bar” in the 11th annual Spirited Awards, announced at Tales of the Cocktail festival in New Orleans this weekend.
Dandelyan, founded by Ryan Chetiyawardana — aka Mr Lyan — is currently the third best bar in the world according to the World’s Best Bars index. Chetiyawardana posted a picture to his Instagram page with the caption: “Holy hell. Best International Hotel Bar, Best International Bar Team and WORLD'S BEST MO FUCKING BAR.” The mixologist and entrepreneur, who also runs Whyte Lyan and Mr Lyan Studio, has reinvigorated London’s cocktail scene in recent years. Cocktail writer Richard Godwin was moved to call him “The smartest bartender in London.”
Dandelyan — which is in the Mondrian Hotel on London’s South Bank — picked up three awards in total: it was also named the “best international hotel bar” and took away the prize for “best international bar team.” In the “world’s best cocktail bar” category, Dandelyan had been up against Dante in NYC, Singapore’s Tippling Club, and The Hawthorne in Boston.
Elsewhere, London bars — Notting Hill’s Trailer Happiness and Swift in Soho — received awards for “best international high volume cocktail bar” and “best new international cocktail bar”, respectively.
