Dynamo Cafe and Pizzeria Are Opening a Second Site in Balham — and More News

Plus Maggie Jones’s celebrate Princess Magaret’s birthday, free pisco sours and Sushi Shop is expanding

  • The Dynamo — Antipodean­-style all day café, pizzeria and cycling shop — has secured its second site, the property advisers Davis Coffer Lyons (DCL) announced this morning. They’ve acquired the site formerly occupied by French Café in Balham, a 2,227 sq ft premises over ground floor on Ritherdon Road off Balham High Road. DCL assigned the leasehold which has eight years remaining at a annual rent of £41,300. Their first site, in Putney, opened in 2016.
  • Princess Margaret’s birthday will be celebrated at Maggie Jones’s on Monday 21 August, by serving a twist on the G&T (£8.50) as well as one of her favourite dishes, The chicken and artichoke pie (£16.50) until the 27 August. The restaurant, which opened in 1964 in Kensington, was named after the Princess who apparently would phone to book under the alias ‘Maggie Jones.’
Señor Ceviche’s pisco sour
  • To celebrate Peru’s Independence Day on Friday 28 August, Señor Ceviche Charlotte Street are offering complimentary pisco sour at brunch this weekend. Guests will need to quote #IndependenceBrunch when booking.
  • Sushi Shop, the French-owned Ronseal Japanese takeaway chain, will open two more sites in London this year. Big Hospitality report that sites will open in Richmond and Hampstead later this year, adding to a group which includes locations in Marylebone, South Kensington and Notting Hill. The high-end group has 130 sites globally with premium sushi boxes costing up to £70.
