Bohemia Place bar launches izakaya

Fat Baby will open at the Night Tales bar in Hackney. The 42 cover izakaya — led by chef Greg Round, formerly of two Michelin-starred Umu in Mayfair — promises Norfolk quail with sweet soy and shichimi, as well as a pork katsu sandwich, obviously. Launch is 11 October.

Michelin-starred restaurant makes Michelin star move

Just a day after London’s Michelin-starred restaurants for 2019 came out, Le Gavroche in Mayfair announced a new, very expensive wine offer, with an “elevated” pairing coming in at £195 per head. The restaurant currently has two Michelin stars; is this a small, early step in the quest for three?

Scandinavian mini-chain closes original east London restaurant

Rök, the Scandinavian wood-fired cookery specialist, has closed its original Shoreditch restaurant. The group announced the news on Instagram, and will focus on its Islington location going forward; nascent plans for a central London opening are on hold.

Very large birthday cake appears in St. Pancras

Monday was dominated by Michelin stars, Michelin selfies, and Michelin ceremonies, but the important news of the day was the appearance of a six foot cake at St. Pancras to celebrate the station’s £150.
