Usain Bolt Launches His First London Restaurant

Plus all the other celebrity sightings in the capital this week

Usain Bolt’s restaurant Tracks and Records in London is now open, owned by the world record sprinter and fastest man in history CPG Photography Ltd

Usain Bolt’s football career may be over before it ever really started, but his restaurant empire is expanding. The Olympic gold medallist launched his new London restaurant on Wednesday night: Tracks & Records. It’s the first one in the U.K. and can be found in Shoreditch. Bolt’s mates Idris Elba and Emeli Sande were among those to join in the fun.

Ellie Goulding was out and about this weekend. The Anything Can Happen singer was seen dining at Rüya on Upper Grosvenor Street on Friday night. The restaurant, which opened earlier this year, serves Anatolian cuisine.

Doctor Who and The Crown actor Matt Smith seems to be a big fan of Hush, the Mayfair restaurant. He was seen there again this week. This time, he brought along his girlfriend Lily James, just announced as the lead in a new adaptation of Rebecca.

Following a soft launch earlier this month, the new SushiSamba in Covent Garden officially opened this week, laying on a spread for fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood, #MeToo campaigner Rose McGowan and model and entrepreneur Jo Wood, on Monday night.

Don’t MPs know how much they can save on pizza with the Domino’s Two for Tuesday deal? They must not have been able to wait: Labour’s Chuka Umunna and Luciana Berger were spotted carrying their order into parliament on Monday evening. Few political commentators will begrudge them their comfort eating, considering this week’s ongoing troubles.

Cristiano Ronaldo had a night at the opera with his girlfriend — or, if rumours are true, fiancée — and young son on Tuesday night. They stocked up beforehand with a meal at Zela, his ‘Meppon’ restaurant on the ground floor of ME London. The night before, he had dined at Scott’s, and, according to reports, spent £27,000 on two bottles of wine — a Richebourg Grand Cru and a 1982 Pomerol Petrus at £9,000.

Also at Scott’s this week was Cheryl – formerly Cheryl Tweedy, Cheryl Cole, or Cheryl Fernandez-Versini – who popped in for lunch on Wednesday afternoon.

Later Courtney Love, rockstar and ex of the late Kurt Cobain, had a civilised dinner there. Meanwhile, designer Christopher Kane hosted a feast in one of the downstairs private dining rooms, welcoming friends including models Lara Stone and Edie Campbell to celebrate the Christmas terrace he’s just designed for the Mount Street site.
