St. John’s famous Eccles cake will be drinkable for Christmas
St. John will partner with 40FT Brewery on an Eccles stout, made with the currants, dark brown sugar, allspice, and nutmeg that makes up the traditional Eccles cake’s filling. Pump Street Bakery’s short-lived Christmas pop-up threw down a new gauntlet in this niche baked good arena; St. John co-founder Trevor Gulliver described the collaboration as “a bit cheeky — which befits the season.” There will be an Eccles beer, Eccles cake, and Lancashire cheese party at the Dalston brewery 15 December, because why not.
Chanukkah supper will launch at Darjeeling Express in Soho
Sudi Pigott will host a Chanukkah supper — for people of all faiths — 2 December at Darjeeling Express, Chef’s Table star Asma Khan’s Soho restaurant. Pigott will be supported by Caroline and Nik Williams of Nik’s Kitchen at Maltby Street Market, and Counter Talk founder Ravneet Gill; £5 from each ticket will also go to Life Kitchen, the cancer charity established by Ryan Riley. Expect latkes, Moroccan fish balls via Claudia Roden, and a cheesecake with local honey from Gill. Book for the dinner at Darjeeling Express here.
Parisian caviar temple makes London return
Caviar Kaspia — which invites website visitors to “contemplate” its caviars — will reopen in the capital on the site of The Chess Club, which closed on Chesterfield Street in Mayfair this year. Expect eleven varieties of caviar, blinis, vodka, and champagne: it’s all money, really. [Hot Dinners]

The parent company, Competitive Socialising, plans a second competitive socialising activity after receiving funding from Cain International. [Big Hospitality]
