Dominique Ansel — he of the cronut, blooming hot chocolate, and other Instagram bait cutesy desserts — will open a second London bakery in Covent Garden. The original Belgravia location has been open for little over two years, with the new site slated for 2019, as reported in the Evening Standard.

Details are currently scant, as might be expected for a chef, and restaurant, that thrives off virality and visual innovation. What’s clear is that Covent Garden — never short on restaurants — is changing up its offering at speed. World-famous xiaolongbao chain Din Tai Fung, Jacob the Angel, St John Bakery, and Albert Adrià’s Cakes and Bubbles have all opened in recent months, with Kerb’s proposed off-street street food market opening in 2019. Ansel’s global fame is a winning capture for an area never short on footfall.

Ansel said that “it’s one of the first places that I visited when I first went to London years ago. It has changed so much over the years and there’s so many great restaurants in the area, we’ll be quite close to the opera house and the theatres, and there’s been so many innovative new shops and concepts opening.”

More soon.
