Flat Iron Square’s Portuguese specialist launches guest series
Bar Douro will launch a guest chef series focussing on Portuguese cities and terroir from 2019. Chefs from Porto and Lisbon will a cook five-course tasting menu one night per month, from February to May, including Manuel Maldonado from Lisbon’s celebrated 100 Maneiras.
Longstanding steakhouse loses operations director
MCA reports that Dave Strauss has left his role as operations director at Goodman London, the longstanding New York City-inspired steakhouse group. Strauss had recently been extremely open about his strategies for the steakhouses, which include heavily discounting prices at opportune business times.
He told Eater London that he felt it was time to move on. “It was exactly 10 years [that I’d been in the role] and I felt that I wanted to try something else. I’m 54 so probably have 1 or 2 projects left in me. Not sure what I’m going to do next but need a few months to detox from emails, reports etc and then ready to go again.”
Speciality coffee juggernaut continues expansion journey
Department of Coffee and Social Affairs continues its acquisition strategy. The chain has purchased Bea’s of Bloomsbury, as well as mobile coffee franchising service Coffee2U. Bea’s was established by Bea Vo, now of Butterscotch in White City and Marylebone. [MCA/Paywall]
