The U.S. could use a strong woman in the White House. Unfortunately our favourite fictional First Lady has abandoned Washington for London: actress Stockard Channing, who rose to fame as Rizzo in Grease and, more recently, in hit drama The West Wing, is in town and dined at The Quality Chop House in Farringdon, the dining room and wine bar which has just announced a new café and extended shop next door.
There’s nothing like a Dame! So the Hotel Café Royal was suitably thrilled to bring out the good china on Friday afternoon when Dame Helen Mirren popped in for a spot of afternoon tea. She was hosted in the Oscar Wilde Lounge and had some champagne too, naturally.

The eternally striking model Erin O’Connor turned forty last week, and marked the occasion with a special birthday lunch on Friday afternoon. She and her family were spotted celebrating the special occasion at Aqua Shard, the restaurant on the 31st floor of The Shard in London Bridge.
Champagne all round on Tuesday evening, as Perrier Jouet hosted an elegant dinner at Restaurant Ours, the slightly retro British-Euro restaurant on the Brompton Road. Singer Pixie Lott and her fiancé, model Oliver Cheshire, had a pre-Valentine’s feast. Although Oliver did let slip that he would be taking Pixie to Nobu the next night to toast the most romantic evening in the calendar. Nothing says “I love you” like miso black cod, after all.
Not everyone has a partner to spoil on Valentine’s Day though: sometimes it’s more important to celebrate friendship. Model Lottie Moss must think so. She joined a group of pals for lunch on Wednesday, returning once again to her local Ivy brasserie, the Ivy Garden Chelsea.
The original Ivy also had a busy Wednesday: Liam Gallagher headed there after the NME Awards, refreshing the dress code by wearing his classic black parka. He was joined by rapper Professor Green and Matt Bellamy of Muse.
Amber Davies, best known as a contestant on ITV hit Love Island and for a recent social media controversy, had a long lunch with friends on Thursday afternoon. She chose E&O, the Pan-Asian restaurant on Notting Hill’s Blenheim Crescent.
She’s come a long way since The Only Way Is Essex… Well, at least ten stops on the Central Line. Gemma Collins was in Mayfair on Thursday evening, for a bite and a drink at Novikov, the Asian-Italian spot on Berkeley Street. She also had a surprise: a fellow diner showed her her personalised Gemma Collins phone case. What a world.
Bourdon House, the restaurant and club that also functions as a Dunhill shop, put on a banquet on Thursday evening ahead of the BAFTAs. Doctor Who star Matt Smith and his actress girlfriend Lily James showed their faces, as did actress Cressida Bonas and Sir Michael Caine.
