Jeremy Corbyn and Diane Abbott — the Labour leader and shadow home secretary who once took a romantic motorbiking holiday across East Germany together in the 70s — were on Stoke Newington’s Church Street on Friday afternoon.

The pair were special guests at the opening of the second Acoustic, and did the honours of cutting the ribbon. The first Acoustic, on Newington Green, is one of Jeremy’s favourite dinner spots, and specialises in Mediterranean food. Abbott predicts it will become “the centrepiece of Church Street.”

Later that day, singer Rita Ora had Friday night dinner at Scott’s, something of an A List favourite: former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was there too. A few nights later, film legend Michael Caine took his wife Shakira – no, not that one – there for a romantic dinner there on Wednesday night. The seafood landmark on Mount Street, owned by Richard Caring’s Caprice Holdings, is clearly a desirable date place for men of a certain age: musical composer Andrew Lloyd Webber was there with his wife on the same night.

David Beckham had a bite at China Tang at the Dorchester Hotel on Sunday. The football icon must have been pleased to get a good meal at the Park Lane restaurant: last week his wife, designer and Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, celebrated her birthday with a cake that turned out to just be a cake-shaped watermelon. Barrel of laughs, that one.

Food writer, occasional jazz pianist and stirrer Jay Rayner was at Rambla Soho on Monday evening. The Catalan-inspired restaurant on Dean Street hosted an auction in aid of Life Kitchen, a charity that gives cooking classes for people living with cancer.

Will Young, the original Pop Idol winner and now star of Strictly Ballroom: The Musical unwound after the press night on Tuesday evening by heading to 100 Wardour Street, the bar and restaurant in the middle of Soho. He was joined by well-wishers including Welsh actor Luke Evans, star of The Hobbit and Beauty and the Beast.

Georgia Toffolo, aka Toff, had lunch at Harry’s on Wednesday. The Made in Chelsea star and reigning champion of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here was seen at the Knightsbridge pizzeria beloved of local Sloanes. It is marginally more flavoursome than the food she ate in the jungle.

Princess Eugenie, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, had dinner with friends at the Bluebird Café on Chelsea’s King’s Road on Wednesday evening. She is currently planning her wedding to her fiancé Jack Brooksbank.

Over in Mayfair, her mum dined at 5 Hertford Street, one of her favourite spots in the city: she is there at least once a week.
