Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom was in Hampstead on Sunday for a cosy lunch with old friends at The Bull & Last, the Highgate Road pub.
Then, on Tuesday, he celebrated the end of the run of his play Killer Joe – which closes at the Trafalgar Studios this week, by going out to dinner with the rest of the cast including Kingsman actress Sophie Cookson. They chose Brigadiers, the Indian restaurant in the City from JKS restaurants, also behind Gymkhana.
Nigella Lawson took a trip to Rovi on Sunday. It’s the new Ottolenghi restaurant in Fitzrovia, only recently reopened after extraction troubles. She must have been there a while: she enjoyed the sesame lobster crumpet, corn ribs, peas with chilli, celeriac shawarma, grelot onions with whipped feta and green gazpacho, squid and lardo skewers, onglet skewers, ricotta doughnuts and apricot clafoutis. “I’d do it all over again”, she wrote on Instagram.
Nick Grimshaw is in a good mood this week as he says goodbye to his early morning slot on Radio One. On Monday, he went for an afternoon walk with friend Harry Styles before heading to Perilla in Newington Green for lunch. He was seen enjoying the onion soup, something of a favourite at the Stoke Newington restaurant and romantic tasting menu go-to.
Donnie Darko and Brokeback Mountain actor Jake Gyllenhaal continues to sample London’s culinary delights. He was at Lyle’s in Shoreditch in July, and this week he was in Clerkenwell for dinner at St John, the beloved, classic restaurant founded by Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver. Maybe he’d enjoy an east London food crawl.
Manchester United legend Andrew Cole turned his attention to restaurants following his glittering career. His group, M, is the former striker’s new home, and he was spotted at its Threadneedle Street location this week, presumably waiting on a slide-rule pass.
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, doesn’t get out for dinner much these days. She can live vicariously through Misha Nonoo, the fashion designer. Nonoo is widely believed to be the woman who set the actress up with Prince Harry, thereby starting the fairytale romance that resulted in that wedding cake. She was at Chiltern Firehouse for dinner on Tuesday night.
Love Island has now ended, but there’s plenty to keep Londoners invested. Ellie Brown and Charlie Brake had a date night at Japanese restaurant Kurobota on Tuesday evening, despite rumours that their blossoming relationship is on the rocks.
Her role in Fatal Attraction has meant that Glenn Close has always been associated with bunny-boiling. But she let someone else do the cooking on Wednesday night. She was seen having dinner at Andrew Edmunds, the low-key restaurant in Soho, ahead of the UK premiere of her new film The Wife on Thursday.
Liam Gallagher, who has been using social media to try and get brother and former Oasis bandmate Noel back on board, was out in Mayfair on Wednesday evening. He and his girlfriend Debbie Gwyther went to Scott’s, on Mount Street.
