Dishoom marks charity breakfast milestone
Indian cafe-restaurant chain Dishoom has run a meal-for-a-meal programme since opening in 2015, and its Magic Breakfast partnership morning will return for 2018 tomorrow, 18 September. All of the group’s restaurants will close for the morning to host breakfast, food demos and kitchen tours, marking 5 million meals donated over three years.
Brighton street food stall sets up on Haymarket
Brighton’s Baby Bao joins London’s clutch of steamed bun purveyors with a new restaurant on Haymarket. According to Hot Dinners, Taiwanese bao will be paired with a range of craft beer. It’s the latest in a recent few southern regional restaurants to open — or seek to open — in the capital.
The Clove Club appoints new head chef
Oli Williamson — of Daniel Clifford’s Michelin-starred Midsummer House in Cambridge and Corey Lee’s Benu in San Francisco — will join Isaac McHale at The Clove Club. McHale announced the news on Instagram, saying that the pair will “continue to innovate and raise things up.”
Chip restaurant opens serving chips
Potatoes, sweet potatoes, or halloumi. 40 toppings, six sauces, and ten more toppings, according to Hot Dinners. It’s Chipnation, it’s in Soho, and it’s open today, 17 September. The topping maths might not make sense, and its longevity is raising eyebrows, but nonetheless, it exists.
Covent Garden Japanese-inspired restaurant launches vegan menu
Another London restaurant is basing things on plants. Jidori will launch a new vegan menu, led by new dishes and featuring a few mainstays. Broccoli tempura and avocado, radish and yuzu “ceviche” will feature, with the menu available from this Thursday 20 September. (Plans to introduce something similar at the sister site on Kingsland Road in Dalston are in the works.)
