World’s 50 Best Restaurants alternative announces categories

The World Restaurant Awards — founded by restaurant writer Andrea Petrini and World’s 50 Best co-founder and Where Chefs Eat editor Joe Warwick — has announced its categories. Divided into ‘Big Plates’ (serious) and ‘Small Plates’ (tongue-in-cheek), the former includes ‘Original Thinking’ and ‘Ethical Thinking’; the latter ‘Trolley of the Year,’ ‘Tweezer-free Kitchen,’ and ‘Instagram Account of the Year.’ The committee, which promises to remedy the structural inequalities of the World’s 50 Best.
