The National Television Awards saw all of the small screen’s biggest stars descend on the O2 Arena on Tuesday night. But evidently the catering wasn’t up to scratch. Gemma Collins, star of The Only Way Is Essex and current Dancing on Ice contestant, left the ceremony and headed to Tayyabs, the cult-followed Punjabi restaurant in Whitechapel. She dined with her boyfriend James Argent, aka “Arg,” telling her Instagram followers that the restaurant holds “a very special place in our hearts,” as “it all started back in the day at Tayyabs.” Must have been the lamb chops.
The Duchess of Sussex had a lunch meeting at Chucs in Notting Hill on Saturday. She was spotted at the Italian restaurant with Christian Jones, her new director of communications. Their meal of choice is unknown but she did reveal a certain preference this weekend: one of her friends posted a picture of a lunch of avocado toast, whipped up at home by the Duchess and served on silver platters.
Non-profit theatre company Platform Presents threw a fundraising poetry gala on Sunday night. Afterwards, several guests made a beeline for the J Sheekey Atlantic Bar, where they dined on fish pie, potted shrimp and lemon meringue pie for dessert. Actor Dougray Scott, The Crown’s new Prince Philip Tobias Menzies, and actress Denise Gough, who has just joined the cast of the new Game Of Thrones prequel, were among the guests.
Not far away, a Sunday date night at Sushisamba’s new Covent Garden outpost. Chris Robshaw, former England rugby captain, was out with his singer wife Camilla Kerslake. The pair married last year.
Singer and reality star Megan McKenna was back at Sexy Fish this week. She was seen dining there on Monday night, a mere week after her last visit.
Huge congratulations to Richard E Grant. The actor has been nominated for his first Oscar, for his role in Can You Ever Forgive Me? He was having lunch with his daughter Olivia when they heard the news and, he says, burst into tears. Those familiar with Notting Hill will recognise the décor as that of Mediterraneo, the Italian just off Portobello Road.
Also out on Tuesday night was Tamara Ecclestone, daughter of F1 magnate Bernie Ecclestone. She was spotted at Zuma, the Japanese restaurant on Knightsbridge’s Raphael Street.
