Another off-street street food court will open in London
W12 Studios will join the cast of restaurants at the White City and BBC Television Centre redevelopment, promising a concept of rotating chefs, restaurants, and street food. Italian flatbreads from Piadina Project and barbecue from ex-Smokestak head chef Joshua Moroney will lead things off in February. [Hot Dinners]
Mayfair hotel’s flagship Cantonese restaurant launches afternoon tea
China Tang at The Dorchester is launching a dim sum afternoon tea, with Chinese tea and tea cocktails to drink. The Promenade at the Dorchester’s afternoon tea is already acclaimed, so doubling down is likely a savvy move. [Richard Vines/Twitter]
Leading British winery opens King’s Cross gin bar
Chapel Down has opened an eponymous ‘Gin Works’ across from King’s Cross restaurant development Coal Drops Yard. As might be clear, it’s focussed on Chapel Down’s gin, rather than the company’s more well-known Kentish sparkling wine; a restaurant serving “seasonal British” food — natch — will open soon. Fishmonger named for a Booker Prize novel will open in Chelsea
The Sea, The Sea — after Iris Murdoch’s book of the same name — will open as a fishmonger, fish restaurant and champagne bar. Alex Hunter, of Bonnie Gull seafood restaurants in Fitzrovia and Soho, is promising same-day catch, guest slots for Londrino’s Leo Carreira and Ikoyi’s Jeremy Chan, and a grower champagne list.
