McDonald’s delivery gets bigger and bigger
After announcing that “McDelivery” accounts for 10 percent of its U.K. business, McDonald’s has opened its first “dark kitchen” in Hanworth, south west London, according to Property Week. While Deliveroo’s dark kitchen programme — known as “Editions” — is primarily pitched as an opportunity for restaurants to diversify their brands, by operating at a different time of day or serving a specific dish, this is straightforwardly a McDonald’s without the restaurant. The burger monolith says that receipts for orders from the new kitchen will state that the food was prepared there, “rather than in a traditional restaurant,” even though McDonald’s’ kitchens are, necessarily, identikit.
