Another of Naples’ most famous pizzerias, and most successful international exports, is opening a London restaurant. Celebrated pizzaiolo Gino Sorbillo will open Sorbillo on Regent Street before Christmas, Scatti di Gusto reports.

Sorbillo, which expanded to New York City in 2017, to Rome earlier this year, and to Miami last month, will join L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele on Baker Street and 50 Kalò di Ciro Salvo Pizzeria on Northumberland Avenue as the third pizzeria grandissima from Naples to open in the British capital. Sorbillo will also open in Genoa “imminently.”

“I will open [in London] by Christmas Eve with a 60-seat venue, where the best Italian ingredients will be used on my pizza,” Sorbillo told Scatti di Gusto. “We finally found the place that feels right for presenting our approach to pizza,” he added.

It is reported that the site, which is understood to have been in the pipeline for over two yers, will be located on Regent Street, though the exact address has not been revealed.

Sorbillo refers to London as one of the “most significant food cities,” a city he worked in as “a boy.” He says that he will transfer the format from his Rome restaurant, which has proved successful in an international capital city.

Eater New York’s Robert Sietsema said of Sorbillo’s first opening in the city that the pizzaiolo proved himself as a pizza master. That contrasts from the same reviewer’s second assessment earlier this year, in which he writes that Sorbillo mostly “missed the mark.”

More soon.
