Covent Garden’s restaurant chops are on the up
Celebrated London steakhouse and Sunday roast specialist Blacklock is planning to open a fourth restaurant in the city. Gordon Ker’s group will open on Covent Garden’s Henrietta Street, according to Big Hospitality, with a recently submitted planning application to refurbish a townhouse for restaurant use at 3 Henrietta Street a possible final destination. Restaurants on Eastcheap and in Shoreditch have replicated the success of the Soho original, predicated on a close relationship with Cornish butcher Warren’s and a concise, precisely executed menu of chops, steaks, and sides. It’ll have healthy competition: London’s sine qua non of extra restaurant openings, Big Mamma, is planning a huge site on the same street. [Big Hospitality]
And in other news...
- Russell Crowe will write, direct, and star in a Marco Pierre White biopic. White’s views on the film? “I thought to myself, ‘Actually, I think Russell Crowe should be playing me, not Michael Fassbender.”
- Andrew Lloyd Webber will open another theatre restaurant at soon-to-open Theatre Royal Drury Lane, with Sexy Fish and The Ivy magnate Richard Caring in support.
- Here are all the best restaurants in Shoreditch.
