Vegetarian and vegan restaurant Wildflower will close at Peckham Levels, in search of “new avenues.” The last dinner service will run 20 February, as reported by the Peckham Peculiar.
Writing on Instagram, co-owner Isaac Tooby, who leads the restaurant with chef Joseph Ryan — previously of Frank’s Cafe and Salon, in Brixton — said:
We’ve had a fantastic first year at Wildflower, and have been overwhelmed by the way diners have responded. An entirely vegetarian and vegan offering served out of a former multi-story car park in Peckham felt like it was going to be a challenge, but from the outset it’s proved incredibly popular with a London-wide audience and we’re really proud of what we’ve achieved.
However, Wildflower will be leaving it’s Peckham Levels site this February. It feels like the right time to take the restaurant out of Peckham Levels and explore other avenues. The appetite for plant-based food is gaining amazing momentum and the Capital’s restaurant scene continues to be nothing short of inspirational; we’re really keen to continue combining the two and are really excited to see what happens next.
The vegetarian-restaurant-in-car-park situation might come across as snoozy hipster, but Wildflower’s sharing menu and vegan tasting menu are fine examples of what can happen when plant-based dining doesn’t shout about its credo: dishes like raw kohlrabi, blood orange, monk’s beard, chilli and mint, or roasted Jerusalem artichokes, poached pears, and salsa verde that no-one would bat an eyelid at on a menu that also happens to serve meat.
Eater has contacted Wildflower to establish what avenues are currently on the map: the restaurant’s residency in Peckham ran for just over a year.
More soon.
