Instagram is here for it

All you can eat sushi brunch is taking over London restaurants

Welcome back to Insta Stories, a column examining the London restaurant scene through the often-problematic medium of Instagram. This week’s filter is lethal.

News of the week

Tomorrow is, of course, Valentine’s Day, which means no shortage of restaurants jumping onto the frilly, floral, chocolate-dusted bandwagon. Special mention must go in particular to last week’s Lunar New Year opportunists-in-chief, who continue to surf the zeitgeist with yet another on-point offering. Can the team at Bun House sustain the momentum all the way up to future festivities?

Romantic forcemeat of the week

When a brand like Greggs introduces some cheeky sausage-related comedy into their marketing, the results are mildly controversial but often good for a giggle — and for business. When a slightly stodgier company better known for oozy food porn money-shots gets in on the act, things get… Kind of gross. Thank goodness for the Marksman, then, for showing what a real porky treat looks like.

Price? Nice.

Alternative offer of the week

Champagne, red roses, truffles? Over it.

Envy-inducing holiday snaps of the week

Italy is currently the destination of choice for winter sun, with chefs and writers heading to the south of the country — or one of its temperate islands — for a boost of Vitamin D and some much-needed comfort carbs. This week, supper club host and sourdough maven Martha de Lacey joins the pilgrimage, ‘gramming up a storm in sunny Naples. Eat, Pray, Love? More like Eat, Eat, Eat!
