A new London bakery is open in Fitzrovia, with a Le Cordon Bleu-trained baker behind breads, the Breton speciality kouign-amann, and some proprietary ‘shiny AF’ — that is, “shiny As Fuck” — chocolate tarts.
Miel is the first bakery from Shaheen Peerbhai, alias Purple Foodie. Peerbhai describes the site at 57 Warren Street as “a small bakery and workshop space,” with the menu focussed on a short, rotating selection of viennoiserie, breads, and patisserie, as well as ‘snacks’ — madeleines, financiers, and chocolate and sea salt cookies. The viennoiserie currently focusses on those kouign-amann, pains aux chocolat, and brioche roses; canelés and the chocolate tarts on patisserie. There will also be a ‘Miel’ hot chocolate, thick, and rich, with coffee served filter only.
Peerbhai’s background includes a Sucré patisserie zine and a cookbook, Paris Picnic Club, with Jennie Levitt. She has also staged on pastry at Michelin-starred Shoreditch restaurant Lyle’s.
More soon as Miel grows into Fitzrovia.
