Childish Gambino — a.k.a. Donald Glover — was in town this week for his rescheduled gigs at the O2 Arena. The music sensation, who plans to retire the alias after this tour, visited Mayfair favourite Gymkhana between shows.
After Jacob Rees-Mogg’s Brexit lunch last week, political plots are afoot in between courses. On Tuesday night Oliver Letwin — who has been anointed as something of a temporary Tory leader this week — was seen dining at Tas, the Waterloo Turkish restaurant.
Then, on Wednesday morning, rumoured leadership hopefuls Amber Rudd and Jeremy Hunt were spotted having breakfast at The Corinthia Hotel.
Even (minor) celebrities can’t just swan in without a booking. Jake Quickenden, former X Factor victor, was after a table at the Petersham Nurseries outpost in Covent Garden on Saturday. But he wasn’t there for long. He told his Instagram followers that he had been turned away from the well-heeled establishment, having dropped in without a booking after running the London Landmarks Half Marathon.
Rochelle Humes, the TV presenter and former member of The Saturdays, did make it in though. She was seen there on Wednesday, attending an afternoon tea event thrown by social media network Peanut.
Ferne McCann, of The Only Way Is Essex, had no such trouble later that day. She was seen dining with friends at Bagatelle, the French and Mediterranean restaurant on Mayfair’s Dover Street.
Richard Madden, known for his roles in Bodyguard and Game of Thrones, checked out new chef Greg Clarke’s work at Pidgin. He visited the Hackney restaurant known for its weekly changing tasting menu on Thursday night.
Sunday night’s a good night for bowling, with chef and model Isaac Carew toasting his birthday with a party at The Croc Bowling Alley in Soho’s Ham Yard. But before that, he and his girlfriend Dua Lipa — the international pop star — were spotted in the painting-lined dining room of Berners Tavern in Fitzrovia.
Another busy week for Tamara Ecclestone. The socialite and daughter of Formula One magnate Bernie Ecclestone was out with her sister, Petra, on Sunday night. They dined at Sumosan Twiga, the Belgravia sushi bar.
Actor Jared Leto really likes to keep things casual. He was seen at The Chiltern Firehouse again this week, once again showing up in slippers and tracksuit bottoms. He dined there on Monday night.
Kate Moss was at one of her favourite restaurants this week. She was at China Tang on Monday night for a dinner celebrating her friend Meg Mathew’s birthday. Other guests included actress Sadie Frost and former It Girl Davinia Taylor, turning the night into something of a Primrose Hill reunion.
Speaking of Primrose Hill, Dame Helena Bonham Carter was in the leafy pocket of north London the next day. She was seen enjoying lunch at Oka, the sushi restaurant on Regent’s Park Road, on Tuesday.
Lunch sought new heights on Wednesday afternoon: model Lisa Snowdon and Game of Thrones actress Laura Pradelska were among the guests at the launch of Harrods’ new Perrier Jouet roof terrace. Lobster rolls, crabs legs and smoked salmon went down with lashings of sponsored champagne.
