Eggslut, the self-styled “pioneering food concept” (which serves trendy variations on egg sandwiches) born in Los Angeles has confirmed that it will make its British debut on Portobello Road in Notting Hill this summer.
It will replace the pintxos bar, PIX, at 185 Portobello Road; confirmation follows the initial announcement at the end of last year.
“Nestled in the heart of Notting Hill, Portobello Road plays host to foodie institutions and thriving independent bakeries, delis and more,” an announcement this lunchtime said.
The first location in the U.K. is only the second outside of the United States (the other is in Beirut). The brand’s famous creation is perhaps the obnoxiously named “The Slut,” which is isn’t actually a sandwich. It does though include coddled egg on top of a smooth potato puree, which is poached in a glass jar, and served with baguette slices.
Eggslut, readers are told, “is a chef driven, gourmet food concept.” Filipino-American chef Alvin Cailan founded the brand as a Los Angeles food truck in 2011. He opened Eggslut’s first, and flagship location in 2013, inside the Grand Central Market in Los Angeles. The opening — and its popularity — was driven by Cailan’s disillusionment with L.A.’s breakfast options.
In the U.K., Cailan and his team “aims to make eggs appetising all day, every day, offering a menu that balances comfort with innovation.”
And, even less remarkably: “The brand prides itself on the quality and taste of its food, with everything made fresh to order, using quality ingredients.”
