London’s Minor Celebrities Are Suckers for American Egg Sandwiches

Eggslut drew in the Made in Chelsea crowd at its Notting Hill Launch

Hard man actor Danny Dyer was out for lunch with his similarly named daughter Dani Dyer — who won last year’s Love Island — on Sunday, where they were celebrating a relative’s birthday. An eagle-eyed fish lover says that the restaurant in question is Smiths of Wapping, a seafood restaurant beside the Thames that’s popular with locals.

Welcome to yet another US staple that’s headed across the pond. This week Eggslut flew over from America to launch its first U.K. site, on Notting Hill’s Portobello Road. Guests enjoyed The Fairfax — scrambled eggs and cheese in brioche — and, really, The Slut — coddled eggs and potato puree in a jar.

Ruby Bhogal, who was a finalist in last year’s series of The Great British Bake Off, was among the VIPs spotted by one of the partygoers, as well as model Jada Sezer and Julius Cowdrey of Made In Chelsea.

Cookbook queen and never one to leave a pack of butter unused, Nigella Lawson was out for lunch last week at Olivomare, the fine seafood restaurant in Belgravia. She paid tribute to its “bewitchingly good” bowl of Lorighittas on Instagram.

Speaking of Love Island, what is a former contestant to do when a new series has introduced a whole new villa full of rivals? Join in on the advertised content, of course. Camilla Thurlow, who was in 2017’s programme, has been doing the honours with vegan restaurant Eat By Chloe. She was there last Friday being paid for the privilege of chowing down on a vegan burger and a vegan mac & cheese.

A few days later, though, she was spotted embracing a healthy rival. She and her Love Island-boyfriend-turned-real-life-boyfriend Jamie Jewitt were seen at breakfast at Farm Girl in Soho on Wednesday.

Let no one say that The Ivy isn’t still a bastion for theatre types. On Wednesday, the classic West End restaurant was the site of theatre producer Bonnie Lythgoe’s 70th birthday party on Monday.

An Ivy regular spotted the impressive group of entertainers who showed up to celebrate, which included actress and singer Elaine Paige, Cliff Richard, Joe Pasquale, Des O’Connor and Doctor Who actor Bradley Walsh.

Finally, to Covent Garden, where singer Pixie Lott was spotted out for dinner. She and her friends were seen at Din Tai Fung on Henrietta Street, the London outpost of the global dumpling chain.
