Chef Oded Oren will open his debut London restaurant this year in Dalston. The eponymous Oren will open at 89 Shacklewell Lane, replacing Floyd’s, and following the chef’s acclaimed 2018 residency at Borough Wines in Kensal Rise.

Oren says that he “will cook food that is inspired from my home and the Mediterranean using local and sustainable produce alongside a thoughtful wine list.” That wine list will be marshalled by Zeren Wilson, who has worked on wine at the likes of celebrated Thai duo Kiln, Smoking Goat, neighbourhood dumpling legends My Neighbours the Dumplings, and Mandy Yin’s outstanding laksa bar, Sambal Shiok.

Oren’s residency at Borough Wines — which succeeded time at Louie Louie on Walworth Road in south east London — featured lamb sweetbreads with za’atar and lemon, a squid pita, and an ox cheek and hummus dish that won Jay Rayner’s heart in 2017. Here, Oren promises “Mediterranean sharing plates,” and plans to serve lunch, dinner, and a “unique” brunch. No date has been set for opening as yet.

More soon on dishes to expect, and the direction of Oren’s cuisine.
