One of London’s most revered restaurant groups has announced the return of some of its most popular brands. JKS Restaurants today revealed that its Michelin-starred Indian establishments, Gymkhana, and Trishna would join South Asian grill Brigadiers, Persian restaurant Berenjak, and Sri Lankan cult-favourite Hoppers in offering food via delivery from this week. Those five sit alongside the group’s established delivery brand Motu Indian Kitchen, and Rice Error — the new Taiwanese restaurant delivery service from the team behind Bao.
JKS announced the complete closure of its portfolio of restaurants, before the government mandated their closure, on 19 March. Since then, it has been working behind the scenes on its corona-time business strategy, contemplating where and how its brands — which span multiple cuisines and price points — could pivot, and fit into the new delivery market. It had a long-standing relationship with Deliveroo, with Motu among the first brands to pilot the delivery giant’s dark kitchens “Editions” initiative in 2017.
The group’s remaining restaurants — Lyle’s, Flor, Sabor, Kitchen Table, and Bubbledogs — in which JKS are partners, will not yet reopen for delivery or collection. However, Eater understands that this is the next phase currently in planning. Flor could operate solely as a bakery, while Bubbledogs could do hot dogs and champagne — both could theoretically work for collection and/or delivery. Some of Sabor’s Spanish farmhouse sharing dishes and tapas might work for delivery; though the logistics for the more intricate styles of Lyle’s and Kitchen Table, one and two-Michelin-starred, respectively, could prove more challenging.
JKS has also said that over the coming weeks, more “click and collect” options will be announced, as well as a further extension of delivery radiuses and a new e-commerce platform for home meal kits, fresh produce, wines, beers, and spirits.
Before then, here’s a complete run-down of JKS’ new offering as of this week — with details of what each of the brands will offer, where they’ll deliver, when it will launch, and how to get it.
