The owners of Michelin-starred modern European wine bar and restaurant, Leroy in Shoreditch, have today launched a new corona time delivery brand called Royale, while the restaurant-proper remains closed. It will deliver quarter, half, and whole seasoned rotisserie chickens with jus-soaked potatoes, salads, and dips to an east London catchment area from tonight, 14 May.

The simple, concise menu from the celebrated restaurant, which was awarded a Michelin star within its first year of opening, has been designed to sustain the parent restaurant brand which has been closed for nearly two months because of the coronavirus pandemic. Like most other London restaurants, in light of the government’s recently published strategy for reopening the economy, Leroy is planning on the basis that it will not be operating as it was pre-crisis before the end of the summer.

Royale was trailed nearly a fortnight ago, with a message posted on Leroy’s Instagram account. It acknowledged that the restaurant would not be reopening in the short-term and noted a disinclination to do so with COVID-19 safety measures — spaced tables, separation screens, and mask — in place.

It said:

We love Leroy. We love our staff, our customers, our suppliers, we love the vibe, the vinyl and long, lazy lunches and busy evenings. We like our Leroy full fat with added butter and we are not going to be doing it with spaced out tables, plastic screens or with masks. We will be back as Leroy as soon as we can. In the meantime we are bringing you the best solution for shit times. Roast Chicken Delivery Leroy style.

Leroy’s owners say that “times like these call for comfort food” which is why they elected to do roast chicken, sides, and nothing else. That, and the fact that good rotisserie chicken, not widespread in London, is a sensible, generally non-divisive food for delivery. All the chickens are being roasted on a vintage Rotisol and will be seasoned with Royale’s own blend of herbs and spices. A concise wine list is also included on Royale’s delivery menu.

Delivery is available in three one-hour slots, Wednesday to Saturday, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Orders must be received by 2 p.m. on the same day. Sunday deliveries are in one-hour time slots between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. and orders must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday. Collection is available at half past the hour in the time slots noted above.
