A prolific group continues to make moves
Mamasons, the hit ice cream parlour from Florence Mae Maglanoc and Omar Shah, will open a third hub for bilog ice cream sandwiches made with pan de sal and a litany of Filipino ice cream flavours in Westfield Shepherd’s Bush in the first week of September. Maglanoc and Shah announced the timeline on Instagram, saying that the opening could coincide with the arrival of their Filipino-Japanese restaurant Ramo Ramen in Soho.
The new space won’t change a winning formula, offering its signature bilog pan de sal ice cream sandwiches, a spectrum of flavours including the ube, black buko, queso, milo, and calamansi. It’s been in the planning since early 2020, having been seriously delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. It joins the original space in Kentish Town, and a second in the heart of Chinatown. It’s also another sign of Westfield’s attempt to tell the world that actually it does have some good food, with Mamasons joining the likes of Bleecker Burger and Pastaio.
The duo have had a busy 2020-2021, also opening forward-looking Filipino bakery Panadera on the Kentish Town strip home to most of their restaurants.
