Furanxo, the quality Spanish wine shop, deli, and tinned fish specialist on Dalston Lane, will expand to Clerkenwell this summer. It has taken over the former Borough Wines space at 63 Exmouth Market, and aims to open around the 17 August.
Known for its technicolour conservas, raw milk cheeses, Iberian charcuterie, broad selection of natural wines, encyclopaedic devotion to vermut, and a very, very strong line in (beautiful) Spanish crisps, the Dalston Lane shop opened in 2016 as a retail frontage for popular Broadway Market stall and importer Santos and Santos, founded by Manuel de los Santos in 2012. De los Santos and Xabier Alvarez — chef and co-owner of Newington Green favourite Trangállan — turn the shop into one of London’s finest wine bars in the evenings.
Having functioned as an online shop and delivery service for most of 2020 during COVID-19 lockdowns, Furanxo’s expansion on to one of the most densely populated restaurant and bar thoroughfares in the city is a serious statement of intent. More soon on what the new space will bring to Clerkenwell.
